Multicoloured Silkscreens

Czech version

I have been enchanted by silkscreen on polymer clay projects since the first time I came across it. Simple, effective and so different every time. However, later on I missed colours in it. I tried to put several colours next to each other and I made more experiments like that but the result was not good.
Over time it occurred to me spontaneously to make colour registration as if it was fabric. By the way, it is a fascinating sight, I recommend you to search a video on fabric manufacturing on YouTube. But it was unimaginable for me to make one design with e.g. six or seven screens. Even though I consider polymer clay artists as amazing enthusiasts accustomed to invest money in almost anything, I found this solution expensive.
And then it came to me: to use one screen twice and to save half of the costs. Are you asking HOW? I´ll show it to you...

You need the following for creation of coloured silkscreen

multi-silkscreen stencils by Nemravka.cz (I´m using dots and circles here)
4 – 8 acrylic paints – depending on how many colours you want to use, I work with Pebeo or Daler Rowney, which are a bit thicker than Artiste
polymer clay, black and white colours are ideal

Procedure

1. Take a stencil with number 1. Follow the typical procedure of spreading the acrylic paint over the stencil by means of a credit or another card. If you wonder how to do it, look here.

Wash the stencil immediately after use and dry out residual moisture by means of kitchen papers. A hair dryer works as well (but with cold air only).

2. Take the second stencil from the set and place it on the dry sheet with the first applied colour. The marks in the corners of the two stencils match but the dots are on different spots (however, following the lines and the columns) than the current ones. Spread the acrylic paint, ideally of another colour, on the second stencil. Wash the stencil and wipe it dry.

3. Now, it´s time to use the first (washed) stencil. Turn it 180° but do not turn it over. The number 3 in the left upper corner follows the number 1 and 2. Adjust the marks in the corners so that they match and repeat application of acrylic paint.

4. Take the stencil with the numbers 2 and 4 and turn it so that the number 4 is in the left corner. Apply acrylic paint. Black dots fill in blank spaces in the design.

5. If you want to border the dots (the borders are designed in order to match the dots), go on repeating the procedure using various acrylic paints and multi-silkcreen stencil set / Circles.

The result is a sheet with up to 8 colours with the use of 4 stencils.
The stencils are very variable and you can make countless numbers of colour and shape variations.
Some of them follow:

1. The dots are applied only to some spots. The circles (i.e. the bordered dots) fill in blank spaces.

2. Only circles are used.
